In the beginning a directory gave us the ability to organize data.
Phone books, Buildings, Airports, Shopping Malls, and many more use a directory to organize
their data, information and locations. The word directory will become very important in the future. Why? The Internet!
The availability of information on the web is mind boggling. Now this being said, there is a great demand for Internet
directories on all types and topics.
Larger general directories will focus on a wide verity of topics with many different sub categories. In the
future smaller niche directories such as a gifts, crafts, baby, shopping and so on will pop up all over the
Internet. The smaller directories will change the way we organize information, by organizing it into smaller
more relevant groups and topics.
There is different kinds of directories on the web. Some
you have to pay, some want to exchange links with you, and others are free. These directories vary in type from
human edited, to kind of auto, to fully automatic.
Okay lets look at a free directory first. This type of
directory is almost always automated with little or no human editing. Also there is no revenue to fund a
advertising program. And for the few that are good and its not easy to get added to the directory.
Here's a look at the second kind of directory. A
link exchange directory. A link exchange is just that a exchange one link for another. Most of the time it's an automated
directory, that once set you forget. There is link exchange services out there,
they do the exchange service for you. But
in the end your still linking back to someone who may not be relevant to your website. And
you may not get
relevant traffic to your website.
And now lets take a look at a Paid Directory. Never an
exchange and very few paid directories use a automated system. There's almost always human editing involved.
This way you have a good chance of receiving relevant traffic. And most good paid directories have a
advertising program to drive traffic to the directory.
As you see directories are shaping and organizing a path
way through the web. In the future one of these types of directories will be the center of finding accurate,
relevant, trust worthy, up to date, web sites on a wide range of niche
topics.
